About Lili's travel plans

Hi there stranger, and welcome to my blog! I’m Liesbeth, a part-time travel blogger from Belgium. I’m also a wannabe photographer but sadly my good shots are more often due to good luck than to real talent. So I'm taking a photography course as we speak but I still think it’s safe to say the money will not be rolling in thanks to my photography skills anytime soon. That’s why I decided to start a travel blog instead. Because everybody knows it’s easypeasy to get rich by travel blogging. Euhm... yeah...

The fact that I’m actually completely addicted to traveling and that I luuuuuv talking and writing about it is obviously just a detail but has however already proven itself to be quite handy!

But taking pictures is not what I suck at most - and at least I'm busy solving the problem! What I suck at most, is singing. Of course I suck at singing, otherwise I wouldn't be trying to make money by travel blogging! I'm so bad at singing that the last time I did karaoke (Like a virgin by Madonna, please don’t judge), the DJ stopped the song before the end and when I told him it wasn’t finished yet, he answered “no but it’s OK, we’re going to leave it at that”… So yes, it’s THAT bad… But I’m a good dancer, which should make up for something, right?!?

So you didn’t run away yet? Great, you’re a keeper! Let’s go on a journey together! But before we head out, let me tell you a little bit more about myself.

As I said, I’m from Belgium, a teeny tiny country in Europe, and I live about 30 km south of Brussels. I have a boyfriend, a cat called Flo, a house and a full-time job that I love (not only the job, the boyfriend and the cat, too). Whenever I'm not working, I spend as much time as possible on my biggest passion: traveling.

I was born in the north of Belgium and my native language is Dutch. Now the first and most important thing to do when you’re born with this ‘condition’, is to learn other languages for people outside of a 100 mile radius to understand what you’re saying. Plus we make sounds like ‘ccrrrggcchhh’, which is anything but sexy. So I learnt French and English in school and got myself a French speaking boyfriend. I now speak French not only at home but also at work. So let me just say

‘Bonjour, comment vas-tu?’

See? Way more sexy! I even speak some German but with the accent and all I sound more like a porn star than anything else. Some might call that sexy as well but let’s keep that discussion for our second rendez-vous, shall we?

(Before I go on writing, let me just count the times I wrote ‘sexy’: 3 times plus 1 ‘porn star’, that should do it. Everyone knows sex sells, right?!?)

With all that, and with me living in the French speaking part of Belgium, where everything on television is dubbed (imagine Sean Connery with no accent and a high voice), English is ‘only’ my third language. So please bear with me when I write ridiculous things (or laugh at me, that’s completely OK too). I promise everything I write does have a real meaning either in Dutch or in French!

OK so what else would you like to know about me? Maybe some things that actually have to do with traveling? Well, I actually think I have the urge to travel in my genes, because I’ve had a passion for it all my life. I always traveled a lot with my parents and that’s how I got to see a lot of Europe during my childhood and teenage years. But I’ve always wanted to go further. In 2007, 2 years after finishing my studies, I had finally saved up some money and decided it was time to start. My first ‘far away trip’ was to Cuba, with 3 travel companions I’d met through a travel forum.

It was the first time I left behind my

trusted little world and it tasted like more!

A few months later I met my boyfriend and we’ve been exploring the world together ever since.
