IN MY BAG: TOILETRIES

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not the kind of girl that wears lots of makeup or spends hours in front of the mirror. Usually I just use some facial cream and some eyeliner and that's it. Of course, I like to make an extra effort when I go out to a restaurant or a party, like any girl I guess :)

I do attach a lot of importance to hygiene and taking care of my skin (especially when there's a lot of sun), so I take quite some products for this.

And then, last but not least, there's my hair, which are a subject all by themselves, so I'll write a seperate post about how I take care of them, how I wear them, ... when I travel. Check out my other Beauty posts to find it.

OVERALL HYGIENE & DENTAL CARE

1. Wash clothes: I take about 1 or 2 wash clothes for each week. When I'm done showering, I wash them with some hotel shower gel, this only takes a couple of seconds and that way I can use them a couple of times. I don't take just 1 or 2 because I move a lot from place to place, so sometimes they don't have time to dry before I leave and I have to put them in my bag still wet. After a couple of hours, they don't smell really fresh so I don't use them anymore.

I don't take real towels because they're usually provided at my hotel/hostel and if not, I use my quick-drying beach cloth. Check out my post about Luggage basics to find out more about this.

2. Dental care products: toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, ...

3. Showering: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner (I always use products for damaged hair for better repair after being in the sun)

4. Deodorant, small bottel of parfume

5. Cotton buds

6. Toilet paper: I always take 2 rolls, except for trips in Western Europe or the USA. Trust me, you’ll need this! Not in hotels or museums but in places like bus stops, off-the-beaten-path places, small restaurants, …

FACIAL CARE AND MAKEUP

My skin is rather oily with dry zones around my eyes and eyebrows. In my daily life in Belgium, I use products for ā€˜mixed skin’ and have no problems at all. However, when I go to places with hot and especially humid weather, this really isn’t enough to avoid my face from getting all oily and shiny. Not really sexy, so I buy products for oily skin to take along on my trip. I guess other skin types also react differently in different weather conditions, so be prepared

1. Facial wash gel

2. Facial lotion: I put some in a small plastic bottle, the kind you can buy for carry-on luggage

3. Day/night cream (2-in-1) with UV-protection

4. A pair of tweezers

5. Cotton pads

6. BB-cream with UV-protection

7. Waterproof eyeliner and mascara

8. 1 set of eyeshadow (neutral colors that go with everything)

9. 1 lipgloss

10. 1 mini-blush. I found this at Hema (Belgium/Netherlands), you don’t need a brush, just put it directly onto you face

11. Small mirror that can stand up by itself

12. Makeup bag

SKIN CARE, HANDS & FEET

1. Sun protection: sunscreen SPF 30 an 50, after-sun

2. Body lotion

3. Hand and foot care: hand cream, foot cream, foot file

4. Nails: file, scissors, 1 nail polish, nail hardener (can also be worn alone to get a shiny effect), top coat, silicone drops to make the nail polish dry faster (best invention ever! I buy these at Hema in Belgium/the Netherlands)

HAIR CARE

I'll write a seperate post about this and add a link when it's ready.

Welcome !

Lili's travelplans travel blog

Welcome to my website! I'm Liesbeth, a Belgian girl who spends as much time as possible on her greatest passion: traveling, wandering around and exploring new things. What I love most are the people I meet and the (mis)adventures I encounter.

On this blog I share my tips and experiences, to inspire you for one of your next trips or - hopefully - make you want to travel as well. I want to show you there's so much more to traveling than just seeing things. It's about discovering, feeling and living experiences. About getting out of your comfort zone and diving head first into the great adventure that is life. About realizing that sometimes you win and sometimes you learn, but when you chose to travel, you never ever lose!
