Hotel review: Baan Thai house, Ayutthaya, Thailand - how to get there

We arrived in Ayutthaya in the early afternoon, after a long flight from Brussels and a 1,5 hours' minibus trip from Bangkok. The minibus had dropped us off in front of the train station and we walked from there to the hotel, which was about 300 meters. If you decide to do this too, just walk through the train station, cross the rails (don't go looking for an underground passage; in Thailand, they just cross the train rails!), turn slightly left and immediately right and walk to the end of the street. The hotel's on the left hand side of the road.

Arriving at Baan Thai House, we immediately had a good impression. The entrance lane is very exotic, there's trees everywhere and a large pond. The lobby is charming and we were heartly welcomed with delicious home-made iced tea.

Check-in went smoothly and soon after we were in our room. All the rooms are located in seperate little houses that are dispersed all over the hotel grounds and surrounded by beautiful gardens.

We got Lotus Villa 1, the room closest to the lobby. The room is spacious and correctly equiped. Decoration is quite simple but tastefull and typically Thai - but modern. They also have rooms with a traditional Thai decoration. The bathroom is clean and spacious enough and there even was an outside shower. We had a private terrace with a great view on a small canal. There's a nice pool and a spa too, that are perfect for some relaxing in an idyllic environment.

Breakfast is complimentary and there's different dishes to choose from. It was good and definitely enough. We had lunch at the restaurant the first day, too. The menu is simple but what we ordered was good and the staff is so friendly!

We came to Ayutthaya for 2 days of serious temple hopping. You can read about day 1 of our visits in this post. I'll tell you about day 2 soon in another post!

Baan Thai House is the perfect place to stay for visiting the city. It's very close to the city center but right outside the 'island' and really calm and relaxing. There really is not a lot to do in the city center at night, so there's no need to stay in a hotel on the island (except if you're looking for really cheap accommodation). You can get to the city center in 5 or 10 minutes by sorng-taa-ou, which is the best option at night because there are no more boats to cross the river and it seems quite dangerous to cross the train rails at night or cross the bridge leading to the center by bike. Just ask the hotel to call one, we never had to wait more than 5 minutes. The price is 90 Baht or about € 2. Another option is to use the free bikes the hotel offers. Just register at the reception, take one of the free locks and you're ready to go! You can read this post to know how to get to the center.

During our stay, we only had 2 minor problems. We had some difficulties with the airconditioning and with the water of the toilet that kept on running, which made some noise at night. Other than that, our stay was perfect! The hotel is an oasis of calm right outside the city center, prices are reasonable and hotel staff is very friendly. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

On this blog I share my tips and experiences, to inspire you for one of your next trips or - hopefully - make you want to travel as well. I want to show you there's so much more to traveling than just seeing things. It's about discovering, feeling and living experiences. About getting out of your comfort zone and diving head first into the great adventure that is life. About realizing that sometimes you win and sometimes you learn, but when you chose to travel, you never ever lose!
